Framlingham College was founded in 1864 in memory of Queen Victoria’s husband, Albert, Prince Consort. The land on which the college was built was originally part of the Castle estate, left by Sir Thomas Hitcham in 1636 to Pembroke Hall, Cambridge.
Included in the Governors’ recent £4million development initiative was the restoration of the original metal windows within the schools boarding accommodation. Clement were chosen to sensitively replace the windows in both the Stradbrook and Rendlesham buildings. To replicate the unusual, shaped head existing windows, the Clement W20 range of steel windows was specified with vertical pivots and genuine T glazing bars.
The installation of the new steel windows was challenging as they were all fitted directly to the beautiful, old stonework. Our experienced installers had to be incredibly careful to ensure minimal disruption was caused.
Andrew Payn, Operations Director at Framlingham College said: “As a Grade II listed building in the town’s Conservation Area, it is imperative that the replacement windows for the boarding accommodation in the main building at Framlingham College meet planning requirements as well as providing a comfortable and safe environment for the boys. Over several years, Clement Windows have undertaken a replacement programme of the windows throughout the College’s main building and we have been delighted with the planning, design and installation of the windows in many different configurations. We look forward to completing the replacement programme with Clement in the near future.”
