While most windows are traditionally rectangular, many architectural styles throughout history have incorporated beautifully shaped windows as distinctive design features.<\/p>\n

At Clement, we specialise in replacing original shaped head windows and enjoy the challenge of creating new steel windows<\/a> that closely replicate the appearance of the originals. Our goal is always to preserve the character and architectural integrity of your building while delivering the benefits of modern performance and efficiency.<\/p>\n

Let’s take a look back at some of the projects we’ve worked on where the brief was to replace shaped head windows with new, high-performing alternatives that remain true to the original design.<\/p>\n

Sedlescombe Vineyard<\/h3>\n

Glass and steel are used for the magnificent entrance to Sedlescombe Vineyard<\/p><\/div>\n

Sedlescombe is England\u2019s oldest organic wine estate, encompassing 22 acres of organically certified vineyards. As one of the region\u2019s leading visitor attractions, its Vineyard & Woodland Nature Trail welcomes around 5,000 visitors each year.<\/p>\n

After more than 35 years of pioneering organic winemaking and producing award winning wines, the previous owners decided it was time for a new chapter and sold the estate to a local couple eager to invest in this well-established independent business.<\/p>\n

The new owners have since transformed the vineyard\u2019s shop and tasting room, creating a striking contemporary space that seamlessly blends steel and glass throughout the building. A magnificent pair of radius head EB24 door screens<\/a> forms a dramatic focal point, enhancing both the interior and exterior while complementing the estate\u2019s natural surroundings and providing a stunning backdrop to the shop.<\/p>\n

How spectacular are these interior steel doors?!<\/p><\/div>\n

Inside, Clement W20 door screens<\/a> and doors have been used to elegantly divide spaces while maximising the flow of natural light throughout the building. Many feature beautifully crafted arched heads, adding character and creating eye-catching architectural features that enhance the overall design.<\/p>\n

Private Residence, Hampstead Garden Suburb<\/h3>\n

Three beautifully shaped steel windows with leaded lights<\/p><\/div>\n

Clement was thrilled to be asked to manufacture the new steel windows and doors for this spectacular Arts and Crafts style house in the Hampstead Garden Suburb.<\/p>\n

Clement manufactured multiple doors and windows for the back of the house which were all rectangular shaped, but the front of the house required three elegant split arched head steel window frames.\u00a0 The new leaded Brooking windows<\/a> and W20 steel doors<\/a>, look just like the originals \u2013 perhaps even better!\u00a0<\/p>\n

Welford & Wickham School<\/h3>\n

We manufactured many different window designs for this historic school<\/p><\/div>\n

Welford and Wickham CE (VA) Primary School is an idyllic Church of England primary school, situated between Newbury and Hungerford, for children aged 4-11 years.<\/p>\n

The school was built in 1857 and although not listed it is historically significant. Any alterations must be in keeping with the original aesthetics of the building and this is all overseen by the Diocese of Oxford.<\/p>\n

For Clement, this was a highly complex project, but one where our highly experienced team thrived! After all, this is what Clement do best, replacing steel windows which over time have become unfit for purpose with modern equivalents, which look beautiful.<\/p>\n

The new windows required were unique and very different to each other. At least four different shaped \u2018Gothic head\u2019 styles were required. Each of these had to be templated to ensure the new EB16 steel window frames<\/a> would be a perfect match.<\/p>\n

Private Residence, Middlesex<\/h3>\n

Our high performing EB20 range is so versatile it can be used for all sorts of shapes<\/p><\/div>\n

Abbey Mews was originally built as the carriage store and workshops for Laleham House in 1803, commissioned by the 2nd Earl of Lucan. The site comprises eight freehold mews houses arranged around a large central courtyard. During the early 20th century, the estate was leased to the Catholic Church and operated as a nunnery, which led to its \u201cAbbey\u201d designation.<\/p>\n

In 1981, the main house was converted into apartments by Barratt Developments, while Abbey Mews was redeveloped into mews houses.<\/p>\n

When the current homeowner purchased their Grade II listed property, it still had single glazed windows believed to date from the 1950s. Seeking improved performance while preserving the building\u2019s historic appearance, the client evaluated several manufacturers before selecting the EB20 range from Clement<\/a>. The choice was based on its quality, value, and the company\u2019s ability to create a bespoke solution for the property\u2019s distinctive arched windows.<\/p>\n

Bonnington & Stonebyres Power Stations<\/h3>\n

It is hard to see, but these windows are a subtle green colour!<\/p><\/div>\n

The Lanark Hydro Electric Scheme is a landmark renewable energy project in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Completed in 1927, it was the first hydroelectric scheme of its kind in the United Kingdom. The scheme comprises two power stations, Bonnington Power Station and Stonebyres Power Station, which harness water from the Falls of Clyde.<\/p>\n

Using the continuous flow of the River Clyde, the stations generate a reliable source of renewable electricity. Together, they produce enough power to supply more than 17,000 homes across the UK.<\/p>\n

Following their acquisition by Drax as part of a \u00a3702 million transaction, both power stations underwent extensive refurbishment. As Category A listed buildings the highest heritage designation in Scotland and a recognition of national architectural importance, it was essential that any replacement windows closely replicated the original designs.<\/p>\n

The project specified the Clement W20 steel window range<\/a>, featuring genuine T-bars and finished in RAL 6005 Moss Green polyester powder coating. In total, approximately 120 steel windows and nearly 400 individual fixed lights were manufactured for the scheme. Among the most striking features are the large curved-head windows on both sides of the buildings, which preserve the stations\u2019 historic character while flooding the interiors with natural light.<\/p>\n
