A combination of intricately shaped head windows manufactured by Clement for historic school

Welford and Wickham CE (VA) Primary School is an idyllic Church of England primary school, situated between Newbury and Hungerford, for children aged 4-11 years.

The school was built in 1857 and although not listed it is historically significant. Any alterations must be in keeping with the original aesthetics of the building and this is all overseen by the Diocese of Oxford.

For Clement, this was a highly complex project, but one where our highly experienced team thrived! After all, this is what Clement do best, replacing steel windows which over time have become unfit for purpose with modern equivalents, which look just as beautiful - if not better!

Although the project did not need vast numbers of new windows, the ones required were unique and very different to each other. At least four different shaped ‘Gothic head’ styles were required. Each of these had to be templated to ensure the new steel window frames would be a perfect match.

The new window frames are a mix of both opening and fixed closed. We furnished the opening vents with a combination of folding openers and Hampstead handles in a bronze finish with matching peg stays.

Tim Alley, Contact Administrator at the Diocese of Oxford said: "Clement Windows demonstrated good value by winning the work by competitive tender. They were very professional and attended when they said they would, working alongside a Building Contractor. Work was carried out proficiently and to a high standard. I am really pleased with the completed windows."
