Grade II Listed Building reinvented as vibrant hub for young people

West Haven Maltings is a Grade II Listed Building which dates back to the 19th and early 20th Centuries. It is in Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire and lies within the Central Grimsby Conservation Area. A granary warehouse was constructed on the site between 1821 and 1838 and later converted for use as a maltings. The maltings operated primarily under Sanders and Co until the 1920s, after which the building was recorded as vacant in 1925 and subsequently divided for light industrial and warehousing uses. In the 1930s, the original malt kiln was converted into a billiards hall, although the extent of alterations is unclear.

An exciting, new charity, Horizon Youth Zone, has recently developed the building to provide a safe, inspiring place for young people aged 8-19, and up to 25 for those with additional needs, to spend their leisure time. The project, delivered in partnership with North East Lincolnshire Council, English Heritage, and the local business community, includes a sports hall, climbing wall and various other facilities.

The building required extensive work to transform it into the fantastic venue it is today. Clement was keen to be involved in such a noteworthy project and to manufacture the new steel windows required to replace the original metal fenestration.

White Clement W20 steel windows with G+ bars were specified to provide like-for-like modern equivalents to the original windows  in a range of different sizes and configurations. Everyone is thrilled with the end result.
